Delivery vans haul 64 million tonnes of goods on Dutch roads in 2016
Dutch-registered delivery vans moved 64 million tonnes of goods over Dutch roads in 2016. This represents about 10% of all goods moved by road hauliers, the national statistics office CBS said on Wednesday. The figures were commissioned by the national institute for mobility policy.
There were about 800,000 delivery vans used for commercial reasons on the road in the Netherlands in 2016. Service companies accounted for 34 million tonnes of the total, building firms for 22 million tonnes and post and package couriers for some eight million tonnes.
Dutch delivery vans covered 15.8 billion kilometres last year, or 43 million kilometres a day. This equates to nearly three times the kilometres registered by trucks but passenger cars travelled nearly seven times that distance, The CBS said.
