The Netherlands’ most generous blood donor has given his last gift of blood, having provided enough to almost fill three bathtubs, local broadcaster L1  reported.

Frans Hollander, from the Limburg village of Rijckholt, has given blood 513 times, donating a total of 333 litres, L1 said.

Hollander is stopping because he will shortly reach the age of 70, the limit for donating blood in the Netherlands.

‘Its a shame but there is nothing I can do about it,’ Hollander said. ‘The age limit is absolute.’ Hollander said he continually tries to enthuse others to give blood. ‘Don’t worry about the needle, it’s nothing,’ he said.
