Dutch, Danes and Irish to discuss Brexit options at mini summit

April 18, 2017

Dutch prime minister Mark Rutte will meet his Irish and Danish counterparts on Friday in a mini-summit to discuss Brexit strategies, the NRC said on Tuesday.

The Netherlands, Ireland and Denmark are said to be the three EU countries that will be most affected by Brexit. The meeting will take place at the Dutch prime minister’s official Catshuis residence.

The Dutch state information service RVD said the talks are ‘informal’ and will deal with ‘current EU themes, including Brexit’, the NRC said. They take place ahead of the April 29 summit at which member states will vote on a joint Brexit strategy.

The three countries, all of which have close trading links with Britain, ‘do not want the Brexit talks to stall over the “divorce bill” from the EU, which some estimates have put as high as €60 billion,’ the Irish Times reported.
