A pilot sheme listing the waiting times for some museums and attractions in Amsterdam has been launched by the official Amsterdam marketing and tourism site over the Easter weekend.

Called ‘Rijenradar’ and available only in Dutch, the site lists the estimated waiting times for admission to the Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank house, Rijksmuseum, Eye Filmmuseum, the Heineken Experience and several others.

On Monday morning, for example, the monitor showed there is a wait of three hours to visit the Van Gogh museum and only visitors with an advance ticket can get into the Anne Frank house. Other museums, however, have no waiting times at all.

If the pilot proves successful after three months, other museums will be able to join in.

The aim of the project is to better spread tourists about the Dutch capital and to encourage them to visit places without long queues.
