Dutch take power ballad Lights and Shadows to Eurovision

The number which girl group OG3NE will perform for the Netherlands at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev was revealed on Friday to be Lights and Shadows.

O’G3NE – pronounced ohjean – is made up of sisters Lisa, Amy and Shelley, who are known for their close harmonies. The girls won the Voice of Holland talent show in 2014 after previously representing the Netherlands in the Junior Song Festival 10 years ago.

The song was written by their father and is an ode to their mother, who is seriously ill. ‘We’re going out to win and we hope to make the Netherlands proud,’ Shelley said at the song’s launch. ‘At least everyone will know we have done the very best we can.’

The Telegraaf’s critic Richard van de Crommert said the power ballad ‘might not be a radio hit, but it is perfect for the song contest’.

The three sisters will perform the show in the second semi-final on May 11.
