Appelsientje for sale: FrieslandCampina to sell popular fruit juice unit
Dairy cooperative FrieslandCampina has put its fruit juice subsidiary Riedel up for sale, the Financieele Dagblad said on Wednesday.
The co-op’s director Roelof Joosten said it wanted to concentrate on dairy products in the 32 countries in Europe, Asia and Africa in which it operates. With 19,000 farmer members in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium, FrieslandCampina claims to be one of the largest dairy cooperatives in the world.
Riedel is based in Ede and turned over €125m in the Netherlands and Belgium last year. Its brands include Appelsientje, CoolBest, DubbelFriss, Taksi en Extran. It was the first to launch packaged fruit juice drinks in 1973.
FrieslandCampina’s long-term strategy is to achieve turnover of €15bn in 2020 up from €11bn in 2015. It forecasts world population at 8.5 billion in 2030 and 9 billion in 2030.
