Dutch clubs involved in a record 151 transfers this winter

February 1, 2017

The Dutch football association KNVB said on Wednesday there had been a record 151 club changes during this winter’s transfer period.

Last year there were just 96 transfers during the winter break. The previous record – 142 – dates back to 2009.

In total 58 players are moving to foreign clubs and 60 players are coming to the Netherlands from abroad. Within the Dutch leagues, 33 players are switching to a new club.

The KNVB said Eredivisie club Roda JC has been the most active on the transfer market, bringing in nine new players and loosing four.

New owner

The club has also brought in former French international Nicolas Anelka as a consultant who will focus on the club’s youth training scheme.

Roda, currently second bottom in the Eredivisie, has a new joint owner – the Russian Swiss investor Alexei Korotaev who has said he wants to bring the club back to the sub-top of the Eredivisie.

Spending spree

Ajax spent the most on new talent, including €12m to buy David Neres from Sao Paulo.

The club earned €12m from the sale of midfielder Riechedly Bazoer to VfL Wolfsburg. Anwar El Ghazi’s shift to Lille generated €7m while Chinese club Tianjin Teda paid €5.5m for Nemanja Gudelj.
