Populist party 50Plus, which is campaigning for a lower pension age, has not ruled out forming part of a coalition with the anti-Islam PVV after the March general election.

Campaign leader Henk Krol says in an opinion piece into Tuesday’s Volkskrant that he has two conditions for joining forces with the PVV. Firstly, the party must commit to reducing the state pension age back to 65 and secondly, the party must change its standpoint on refugees.

50Plus backs a tough and just policy in which the Netherlands will contribute to the care of people confronted by violence and death, Krol said.

In addition, a refusal to work with the PVV after the March 15 election will only generate more support for the party, he said. Opinion pollster Maurice de Hond and VVD stalwart Hans Wiegel have both suggested excluding Geert Wilders’ party will increase its share of the vote.

‘We oppose helping the PVV to win more seats,’ Krol said.

The PVV is currently leading in the opinion polls. 50Plus, which won two seats at the last election, is on target to take around 10.
