New Year damage to private property put at €13m
Damage to cars and other private property during the New Year festivities totaled at least €13m, the Dutch insurance association said in an initial estimate.
This is down €1m on the total bill in 2015/16. Both Amsterdam and Utrecht were quieter than in preceding years but there were more damage reports from both Rotterdam and The Hague, the Telegraaf reported.
There were some 40 car fires in the The Hague region, double last year’s total.
According to police figures,7,114 incidents were registered during this year’s New Year celebrations, down over 500 on 2016. In total, 492 people were arrested, 10 more than in 2015/2016.
