IT problems hit last minute PostNL Sinterklaas deliveries

A computer breakdown at PostNL means tens of thousands of Sinterklaas gifts will not be delivered on Monday as planned, news agency ANP reported.

Some 40,000 of the 500,000 packages which PostNL is set to deliver on Monday will not make it in time for the Sinterklaas celebrations, ANP said.

‘It is extremely annoying,’ a spokeswoman said. ‘We are doing all we can to make sure the parcels get delivered but some will have to wait until Tuesday.’

Most Sinterklaas gifts were delivered at the weekend and the day of the Sinterklaas festivities is a generally quiet day in delivery terms. Last year, PostNL delivered an average of 550,000 parcels a day, but that total doubled in the run up to Sinterklaas.
