Special security measures at Schiphol airport scaled back
The Netherlands is scaling back the extra security at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport and reducing the number of checks on arriving cars from Thursday evening.
The special measures were introduced on July 30 following an unidentified threat and had led to considerable delays for passengers.
The decision was reached at a meeting between police, the mayor of Haarlemmermeer and the counter-terrorism agency NCTB.
Officials said the indications which led to the introduction of the special measures three weeks ago had been further investigated and this ‘led to the conclusion that some of the extra measures are no longer necessary.’
However, there will still be random checks on the roads around the airport and at the railway station, officials said. Passengers are being warned to allow an extra 30 minutes to get to their flights.
The threat level in the Netherlands has been ‘substantial’ since March 2013.
