The Netherlands sends 54 athletes to the European championships in Amsterdam
The Dutch team at July’s European athletics championships in Amsterdam will be made up of 54 athletes, the Dutch athletics union said on Tuesday.
In total, 26 men and 28 women will take part in the tournament at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam from July 6 to 10.
The squad includes current European 100m and 200m champion Dafne Schippers who, according to the preliminary running order, is only defending her 100m title. Schippers is the fastest woman in the world over 200m this year.
Other Dutch favourites include Sifan Hassan in the 1,500m, Churandy Martina in the 100m and 200m and Thijmen Kupers in the 800m.
The Netherlands sent 43 athletes to the last European championships in Zurich two years ago and ended in fifth place on the medals table with three gold, two silver and one bronze.
