The Dutch island of Texel is a must visit destination, says top guide

Global travel guide Lonely Planet has singled out the Wadden Sea island of Texel as one of its top 10 European holiday destinations for 2016.
Texel, which boasts 24km of beaches and is easy to reach via ferry from Den Helder, is praised by the guide for its ‘myriad summer festivals, including the spectacular Ronde om Texel, the world’s largest catamaran race’.
It also offers ‘superb local produce’, including a winery, brewery and numerous dairies, Lonely Planet says.
Top of the list is the Greek Peloponnese peninsula, followed by Aarhus in Denmark and Venice.
