Iris van Herpen wins €50,000 Dutch fashion design award
Dutch designer Iris van Herpen has won the Netherlands’ top fashion award – the Cultuurfonds Mode Stipendium.
The €50,000 prize is awarded annually to a ‘supremely talented designer’. The jury praised Van Herpen’s ‘boundary-breaking design vision’ and innovation.
‘She dares to follow her own route, with creations that sometimes surpass our wildest expectations,’ the jury said.
Van Herpen graduated from Arnhem’s design academy in 2006 and started her own label a year later. Her work is often described as sculptural and involves exploring new technologies as bodywear. She has dressed Lady Gaga, Bjork and Beyonce among others.
