Dry weather leads to code red fire warning for Dutch heaths
Fire officers in Gelderland and Overijssel have introduced a code red fire alert for the provinces’ heath areas.
In Drente, northern Limburg and Noord-Brabant, a code orange warning has been in force for several days. The warnings follow a long spell of dry weather.
Last Friday an area of heath the size of 15 football pitches was destroyed in Hoog Soeren in Gelderland. At its high point, some 60 firemen were involved in putting out the blaze.
