The launch of taxi app Uber has brought down prices around the globe but in Amsterdam they still remain relatively expensive, according to research by Deutsche Bank.

The bank’s new Mapping the World’s Prices report shows the impact of Uber, first launched in 2009, on fares in cities where the company is active.

‘There are signs that perhaps Uber is making its mark on the world as taxi prices in many places are falling sharply,’ Deutsche Bank strategists Jim Reid and Sukanto Chanda said in the research.

The report shows an eight kilometre taxi fare in Amsterdam costs around €24, which is cheaper only than Zurich, Stockholm and Tokyo. Uber has withdrawn its budget Uberpop service in the Netherlands because of legal problems.

The report also compares the cost of an iphone in the 27 countries studied, and found that in the Netherlands an iphone is 122% more expensive than in the US.

A cheap date, consisting of taxi rides, lunch or dinner for two in a cafe, soft drinks, two tickets for the cinema and a couple of beers, costs just under $150 in the Netherlands, compared with over $200 in Zurich and just $44.50 in Jakarta, the FT said.
