Geert Wilders tweets like Donald Trump: US comedy show lays into PVV leader

May 13, 2016

Screen Shot 2016-05-13 at 14.54.20The Netherlands has its own version of US presidential hopeful Donald Trump in the form of PVV leader Geert Wilders, says Trevor Noah, of US television comedy programme ‘The Daily Show’.

Noah used Wednesday’s broadcast to ‘warn’ Americans that if they are thinking of leaving the US to escape Trump, they should be aware other countries have their own versions.

And if Trump had human hair, ‘it would be like Wilders’, Noah said, before likening him to a ‘middle-aged Drako Malfoy’ from the Harry Potter films.

Wilders, who has endorsed Trump and plans to attend the Republican convention to show his support, even tweets like Trump, Noah said, referring to a tweet in which the PVV leader says in capital letters ‘make the Netherlands great again’.

‘At what point are we going to acknowledge that “great” actually means racist?’ Noah asked. ‘It’s like coded language.’
