Major security scare closes parts of Schiphol airport on Tuesday night

Parts of Schiphol airport were sealed off for a time on Tuesday evening because of a major security scare surrounding a man with an unknown quantity of luggage.
However no one in the shopping area of the airport was at risk because the suspect had been immediately arrested, a military police spokesman told broadcaster Nos.
Police were tipped off by a visitor to the airport who thought the situation ‘suspicious’ and alerted the authorities.
Bomb experts were called in to inspect the man’s luggage. They found ‘nothing out of the ordinary’, but the man remains in custody. No details about why he was arrested or his identity have yet been released but police said their investigation is continuing.
Two other people were also arrested but released shortly afterwards. According to the Telegraaf, they had no connection to the first man.
The airport was fully opened to passengers again around 1.40am.
Security has been stepped up at Schiphol since the Brussels attacks.
