An 18-year-old youth has turned himself in to police, saying he is the driver of a car which killed a three-year-old toddler in Breda on Wednesday.

The boy was playing outside when he was hit by the car and dragged several metres along the road.

The car drove off but a tip-off in the evening led police to the Renault Megane thought to have driven into the child. It was in a car park some two kilometres away. Some 30 minutes later, the teenager went to the police.

The youth will be questioned about the incident on Thursday.
