China a big draw to Dutch online shoppers
Consumers are increasingly buying goods and services on foreign websites and Chinese online retailers in particular are pulling in Dutch shoppers, according to the latest Thuiswinkel market monitor.
In total, Dutch consumers spent more than €500m in foreign webshops last year, a rise of 31% on 2014. By contrast, total online sales rose 16%.
Nevertheless, the total volume of foreign sales accounted for just 3% of total turnover in online shops. China topped the list with 25% of spending, followed by Germany and Britain.
Thuiswinkel.org, a lobby group for online retailers, defines a foreign webshop as one which is not in the Dutch language.
