Leiden security alert due to overheard phone call, three under arrest

The false alarm which led to Leiden station being closed for a time on Tuesday night was due to an overheard conversation, police said on Wednesday afternoon.
A passenger on a train overheard and recorded a phone call from another man about a weapon and reported it to the police. That tip-off led police to close the station and arrest the caller and two other teenagers travelling with him.
All three, who come from Delft and The Hague and are aged 18 and 19, are still in police custody. It is not clear why police decided to clear the station, Nos said.
Police say there is no connection between the Leiden and Schiphol incidents.
