Household goods and electronics chain Dixons is closing most of its 30 high street stores but will remain as an online retailer, the company has announced.

The shift to online offers the ‘best perspective’ for the company in the future, group owner Relevant Holdings said. Relevant took over Dixons when its parent company BAS Group went bankrupt in October. At the time 55 Dixons stores were closed down.

Some of the shops will be rebranded as Phone House, MyCom or iCentre stores – labels which are also owned by Relevant Holdings. Many of the Dixons’ staff will be moved to jobs at the company’s other outlets.

The closure of the Dixons’ chain is the latest in the ongoing Dutch high-street shake up. Recently, the V&D department store group has gone bust, as have a number of shoe and clothing stores.
