Dutch brother and sister missing after Brussels airport bomb

March 23, 2016

Bert Koenders

Dutch foreign affairs minister Bert Koenders said on Wednesday afternoon that the embassy will do all it can to discover the fate of two Dutch 20-year-olds who are still missing after the Brussels attacks.

According to Dutch public broadcaster NOS, Koenders said the uncertainty over their whereabouts is ‘a terrible situation.’ He pledged: ‘The embassy will do everything possible to get clarification swiftly from the Belgian authorities.’

Sascha and Alexander Pinczowski were reportedly on the phone to relatives to let them know they had checked in to Zaventem Airport when the two bombs exploded and the line went dead.

The brother and sister are from a Maastricht family currently living in the US and were about to fly back to New York.

Attacks at the airport yesterday are thought to have claimed at least 15 lives, although identifying the victims is a laborious process due to the sheer force of the blast, according to an airport spokesman.

The Dutch foreign affairs ministry has received dozens of phone calls with questions about the situation in Belgium. The siblings from Limburg are thought to be the only Dutch people who have not been in contact with anyone since the Brussels attacks.

If you have info on Sascha & Alexander Pinczowski, get in touch, my friends haven’t heard from them yet. 😔 #Brussels pic.twitter.com/Mw9kbqaGlu
