Taiwanese electronics group Pegatron is closing its operation in Breda, just two years after it opened, the Financieele Dagblad said on Wednesday.

The company, which repairs mobile phones for Apple, Dell and Asus among others, is shifting all its operations to Ostrava in the east of the Czech Republic. Some 500 people, most of whom were employed via staffing agencies, will lose their jobs.

The company did not give a reason for the closure, other than to say that the Brabant operation was typified by peaks, troughs and seasonal influences, the FD said.

According to local news website Breda Vandaag, the company has recently come under fire for employing most of its staff on temporary contracts and Socialist MPs have raised questions about the operation in parliament.

Pegatron opened its Breda operation in 2014. At the time, the local development board claimed the Taiwanese company would create 700 jobs, the FD said.
