Designer Mart Visser is dumb fur wearer of the year
Dutch designer Mart Visser has been voted Dom Bontje (dumb fur wearer) of the year in an annual poll by anti-fur campaigners.
Visser, who uses various furs in his collections, took 24% of the votes in the contest, organised by animal rights group Bont voor Dieren.
‘The fur I use is very responsibly produced and I know where it comes from,’ the designer told Vogue Nederland in 2014, adding that he considers fur is no longer an issue in fashion.
Princess Beatrix was a close second in the poll with 23% of the vote. The former queen, whose signature is at the bottom of legislation banning fur farming in the Netherlands, continues to wear fox fur, Bont voor Dieren said.
Actress Halina Reijn was third with 21% of the vote. She was photographed wearing a fox fur hat.
Dom Bontje is a word play on the Dutch phrase domme blondje, or dumb blonde.
