The big freeze continues, first marathon skate set for Tuesday night
The temperature dipped to -11.5C in the north east of Groningen province on Monday night, the first time it has been colder than 10C in the Netherlands since 2013.
Then the chilliest night was recorded in Limburg, at the other end of the country, when the temperature fell to -13.3C.
A number of village outdoor ice rinks are now open for business, following several days and nights of frost.
The Dutch skating association KNSB said on Tuesday morning that the first marathon on natural ice will take place on Tuesday evening in Haaksbergen, in Overijssel province.
Some snow is likely in northern parts of the country on Tuesday, the KNMI weather bureau said.
