Just one jailbreak in the Netherlands this year
Just one person has tried to escape from a Dutch jail so far this year, news website Nu.nl says on Wednesday.
In 2014 there were five attempted escapes and 11 in 2013, Nu.nl says. The website bases its claim on freedom of information legislation. The Dutch prison population is around 9,100.
Between 2010 and 2015 there were 38 attempted escapes, of which seven were made by people jailed in the isolated prison village of Veenhuizen. One of the village’s two prisons is now being used by the Norwegian legal system.
There were also 11 successful escapes. All but one of the escapees has since been recaptured.
