Internet, phones, bank payments hit by major KPN outage
Telecoms company KPN was hit by a major technical failure in large parts of the Netherlands on Friday, leading to problems with interactive television services, fixed-link telephony and bank payment traffic.
By 15.00, the cause of the breakdown had not been identified and KPN was unable to say how long it would take to repair. The company’s mobile phone network is not affected.
ABN Amro was unable to process payments and its website was offline for several hours because of KPN’s problems. Other banks are also experiencing issues, news agency ANP says.
The breakdown comes on the same day as ABN Amro floated 20% of its shares in Amsterdam.
