Heavy rain leads to long traffic jams on Tuesday, more wind tonight
Heavy rain in parts of the country led to long traffic jams for commuters on Tuesday morning and delays are also expected this evening.
According to the ANWB motoring organisation, there were over 1,000 kilometres of jams around 08.00 hours, of which 470 kilometres was on motorways. In particular, accidents on the A27, A58 and near Arnhem led to long delays, news agency ANP says.
According to the traffic information service VID, this was the busiest rush hour this year, beating February 5 when snow brought chaos to many roads.
The KNMI weather bureau has issued a code yellow weather warning for Tuesday evening, saying winds of up to 110 kph will hit coastal areas. Inland, the wind is expected to reach speeds of up to 90 kph.
