Primary school teacher reprimanded for tying child to chair

Yellow Chair against Brick Wall in IstanbulA primary school teacher in the town of Schoonhoven has been given an official warning after tying a pupil to his chair, the AD says on Friday.

The teacher, who has 16 years experience, is said to have become exasperated by the child’s refusal to listen and sit still.

The paper does not say how old the child was, but the teacher at the centre of the incident teaches children from the age of 6 to 8.

A spokeswoman for the local school organisation told the AD the teacher had warned the child several times about his behaviour. Nevertheless, tying him to a chair was ‘an over-reaction’ and could not be excused, the spokeswoman said.

The teacher is expected to return to the classroom after the autumn holidays.
