NS staff to experiment with bodycams

October 8, 2015

Conductor getting in a train ready to start in The Hague, the NetherlandsDutch railway company NS is beginning a six-month experiment involving equipping  security and counter staff with bodycams.

The NS hopes the use of cameras will reduce the number of aggressive incidents and attacks on staff. In addition, they will provide officials with more footage to identify offenders, spokesman Frank Reitsma said.

Personnel wearing the cameras will put them on when confronted with a threatening situation. The images will be monitored at the NS security desk, so that extra help can be brought in earlier.

The NS has also embarked on a programme of closing stations off to all but ticket-carrying travellers in an effort to improve safety and reduce attacks on staff.
