Fewer people are overdrawn at the bank
Just over six in 10 people (63%) say they have not been overdrawn at the bank in the past 12 months, compared with 52% two years ago.
In particular the under-34s and the low-skilled are least likely to have been overdrawn, the survey of 1,000 people by website Wijzer in Geldzaken shows. Those who do run out of cash are more likely to draw on their savings than go into the red.
The survey also showed nearly four in 10 people with a mortgage see paying off their mortgage debt as a preparation for retirement. Two years ago, just one in four people considered this to be important.
