Almost 25% of the Dutch are members of a sports club
Sports clubs in the Netherlands have nearly 4.37 million members, the Dutch sports umbrella organisation NOC*NSF said on Monday.
This means roughly one in four of the Dutch population are members of a club – although many people are likely to be members of more than one.
Over 27,000 clubs were affiliated to the organisation last year, a drop of 454. Football clubs topped the list with 1.2 million members, followed by tennis and fishing.
The biggest growth was booked by hockey clubs, who now have nearly 250,000 members.
