Some 500,000 people in the Netherlands do more than one job, up from 300,000 just two years ago, figures from the national statistics office CBS show.
The FNV trade union says an increasing number of people are finding it hard to make ends meet on one salary and are taking on extra work.
‘Some people find it fun and challenging to do more than one job and see it as a way to develop further,’ a spokesman for the union said. ‘But many people have no choice but to, say, work as a cleaner in the morning and then behind a bar in the evening.’
