Church treasurer embezzles €750,000; blames internet criminals
The treasurer of a church parish in Roermond has been suspended on suspicion of embezzling the district’s entire assets of €750,000, local newspapers report.
The parish of the Heilige Christoffel and Heilige Geest also includes Roermond cathedral.
The church employee apparently confessed to transferring the money to other people’s bank accounts last week and says he is a victim of internet crime. The Limburgs Dagblad did not give any further details.
The police are now investigating, the paper said.
