Sifan Hassan wins bronze in world championship 1,500 metres
Dutch middle distance runner Sifan Hassan has won bronze in the women’s 1,500 metre event at the world championships in Beijing.
Hassan, who had to start from the back, completed the distance in 4.09.34. The title went to Ethiopian favourite Genzebe Dibaba and Faith Kipyegon of Kenya took silver.
Hassan, who moved to the Netherlands at the age of 15, is the reigning European title holder and currently second to Dibaba in the world rankings.
On Monday, Dafne Schippers became the first Dutch women to win a medal in a world championship sprint, taking silver in the 100 metres.
