A man has been arrested in Nijmegen several days after he escaped from a secure psychiatric hospital unit in Vught.

The man was carrying a gun and ammunition when he was picked up, police said, but gave no further details.

Local broadcaster Omroep Brabant said the man had been sent to the institution after ‘committing several crimes’, but could not say what these were.

Nor is it clear how the man managed to escape, the broadcaster said.
