Dutch women reach water polo world championship final
The Dutch women’s water polo team has reached the final of the world championships for the first time in 17 years.
The Dutch team, which includes teenagers Laura Aarts and Maud Megens, beat Italy on penalties to take one of the final places, guaranteeing them at least a silver medal. They will take on the American women’s team on August 7 for the title.
The water polo event is part of the World Aquatics Championships currently taking place in Kazan in Russia.
The Dutch women were world champions in 1991 and won silver in 1986, 1994 and 1998.
