Dutch unemployment rate falls to 6.8%; older people benefit
The number of people without a paid job in the Netherlands fell by 15,000 in July, from 595,000 in June to 580,000, the central statistics office CBS said on Thursday.
The official unemployment rate was 6.8% in July, down from 7.3% in the year earlier period.
Older people are the beneficiaries, with unemployment among the 25 to 45 year olds at 5.4% in July, down from 5.9% over the first quarter. For people over 45 the rate has dropped from 6.6% three months ago to 6.4% in July.
Youth unemployment has risen slightly, from 10.8% in March to 11.3%, the CBS said.
