Greek euro deal divides Dutch voters, hits support for PM

July 20, 2015

No to Mr DijsselbloemOne in two Dutch voters are negative about the financial agreement struck between Greece and the EU, according to a new Maurice de Hond opinion poll.

In addition, half of Dutch voters say Greece should have left the eurozone and 56% think none of the money will be repaid, the online De Hond poll shows.

The agreement has also had an impact on the popularity of prime minister Mark Rutte who has lost public support by backing it.

The poll shows 25% of voters are more negative about Rutte since the deal was agreed. Rutte admitted in public the agreement meant he had broken an election promise not to give more money to Greece.

By contrast, support for finance minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem, who had a major role in reaching the agreement as head of the influential Eurogroup, has remained unchanged, the poll shows.
