Bomb threat man arrested at Schiphol airport
Military police at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport have arrested a 29-year-old man suspected of sending threatening emails in the name of Islamic militant group IS, the Telegraaf said on Wednesday.
The man, who comes from Apeldoorn, is suspected of sending an email last week to a number of Dutch media companies in which he claimed to have placed explosives at several locations in Amsterdam.
He demanded the Dutch authorities release several jihadis from jail and hand over a large sum of money in return for the location of the explosives.
Police said the threat was quickly proved to be groundless and there was no actual link to IS.
The investigation led to the Apeldoorn man, who at that point was abroad. He was arrested on his return to the Netherlands on Tuesday and will appear in court on Friday.
