Art involving marijuana and German military helmets upsets NS
Dutch railway company NS ordered the removal of an art installation featuring German army helmets with marijuana plants growing in them from Amsterdam’s RAI station on Saturday.
The installation, by artist Pet van de Luijtgaarden and named Make Love not War, was on show in the exhibition space on the station’s platform, which was once a waiting room.
Around 100 helmets were filled with potting soil and planted with male marijuana plants which, says instigator Jeannette Dekeukeleire, don’t make good smoking material.
Despite the fact that the police were informed in advance, NS ordered the exhibition to be taken down, one day after it officially opened. An NS spokesman said there had been complaints from travellers.
