Woman from Kerkrade confirmed dead in Nepal earthquake
A 52-year-old German woman who has lived in the Netherlands for 20 years has been killed in the Nepal earthquake, foreign minister Bert Koenders confirmed on Friday.
The woman was on a trekking holiday with her husband and daughter when they were engulfed in an avalanche of snow and rocks during the quake.
According to local Limburg media, the daughter, who is 16, returned to the Netherlands on Tuesday. Her father and mother remained behind and her mother died in hospital.
The foreign ministry is trying to trace up to 150 Dutch nationals who are thought to be in Nepal but have not been heard of since the earthquake a week ago.
