Police arrest 10 in The Hague for selling stolen bikes
Ten people have been arrested in The Hague in connection with the theft and resale of bicycles, police said on Monday.
Police launched their investigation in March after one person recognised his bike being offered for sale on the online auction house Marktplaats.
The bikes, including electric and cargo bikes, were stolen in The Hague, Rijswijk and Voorburg and were being sold online for between €60 and €650.
The gang of eight men and two women vary in age from 16 to 51. One member of the gang was identified by shoes he was wearing in the photograph of the bike, the police press statement said.
Seventeen bikes have been returned to their owners but a number of others remain in the police pound because they have either not been reported as missing or the official report does not include the bike’s frame number.
