‘No foundation for German espionage’: minister
Home affairs minister Ronald Plasterk on Tuesday told parliament there is no evidence to show that German and American secret service organisations tapped into Dutch internet traffic.
Earlier this month, Austrian green party politician Peter Pilz claimed the German BND and the American NSA security services were tapping into Dutch internet communications. He said he planned to take legal action against Deutsche Telekom for tapping internet connections on their behalf in Austria, France and the Netherlands.
Plasterk said at the time he would ask the Dutch security services to look into the claims. It would be ‘unacceptable’ for a foreign power to listen in to Dutch internet traffic, he was quoted as saying by the Volkskrant.
The minister has now informed parliament in a written briefing that there is ‘no foundation’ for Pilz claim.
