The speed cops are back, without their Porsches

police carTwo years after the unit was abolished,  the national traffic police are back, the Telegraaf reports on Wednesday.

A unit of 50 officers has been charged with patrolling motorways looking for ‘notorious’ road hogs, phone users and drivers who break the speed limit, the paper says.

They will support the 10 regional teams who monitor highways in their own patch.

However, unlike in the old days, the new breed of speed cop will drive cars which blend in with the rest of the motorway, not Porsches and Mercedes as they used to, the paper says.

The national traffic police unit was disbanded in 2013, when the police force was restructured.
