Morocco has broken up a six-man militant cell loyal to Islamic State and which was planning to stage attacks at home and in the Netherlands, Reuters quotes the Moroccan interior ministry as saying on Monday.

The cell was based near the northern city of Nador and one member, who lives in the Netherlands, was planning to use guns and bombs against Dutch security forces, the ministry told Reuters. He has since been arrested, the statement said.

Dutch public prosecution department spokesman Wim de Bruin told news website nu.nl that person is likely to be 27-year-old Mohamed B who was picked up last October.

‘There have been no recent arrests,’ De Bruin said. ‘It would appear to be that case.’

B is being held on suspicion of planning to launch terror attacks on police targets. He is due in court on Tuesday for a procedural hearing.
