Dutch aid budget dips further below UN standard

April 8, 2015

50 euro notes moneyThe Netherlands contributed 0.64% of its gross national product to development aid in 2014, well below the United Nations agreed standard of 0.7%.

The Dutch contribution to relief and development efforts fell to 0.67% in 2013 as a result of new government policy.

Britain has now overtaken the Netherlands in terms of aid spending, according to Oxfam Novib. Five countries currently meet the 0.7% target: Sweden, Luxemburg, Norway, Denmark and Britain. The Netherlands is sixth in the rankings.

In total, global spending on aid was stable last year at some €124bn. The Netherlands was responsible for some €5bn of that, the OECD figures show.
