Community service for Deurne jeweller in double homicide case
The jeweller involved in a fatal robbery at his shop in the Brabant village of Deurne in March was given 100 hours community service and a six months suspended jail sentence on Friday.
The jeweller was confronted with two men in his shop. When his wife saw what was happening, she shot the men dead with his gun. Officials later decided not to prosecute the wife because she acted in self-defence.
However, the man was prosecuted for owning an illegal weapon. He also had a taser and tear gas in his possession.
A third man, who had helped the robbers by reconnoitring the area and providing a get-away car, was given a three-year jail sentence earlier this week.
