Plans to renovate the Kuip football stadium in Rotterdam have been shelved after failure to reach a deal on the finances.

Last April agreement was reached on a €200m overhaul for the stadium, increasing its capacity to 70,000 and including a new roof. However, a more detailed breakdown of the plans shows that the budget will be considerably higher, news agency ANP says.

It is unclear if Feyenoord intends to proceed with the renovations in a different form or whether the club will now focus on a new development.
